Firm Culture and Careers

What is it like to be a part of the team at Fahl & Donaldson, PLLC?

Not every law firm feels the same when you walk through the door. Some are loud, hierarchical, and relentless, built around billable hour quotas and the pressure that comes with them. Others lose talented attorneys in the shuffle of hundreds of names on a letterhead. Fahl & Donaldson, PLLC, is neither. We’re a small, collegial firm where the work is substantive, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the people who work here tend to stay. If you are considering a move and want to know what daily life actually looks like inside these walls, this page is for you. Our attorneys bring more than 100 years of combined litigation experience to complex defense work across Texas, and we are looking for someone ready to be a real part of that.

Fahl & Donaldson was founded on the belief that smaller and leaner is often better, for clients and for the people doing the work. Glenn J. Fahl and R. Kelly Donaldson have built a firm where attorneys are known, supported, and trusted with meaningful cases from day one. The founding partners maintain an open-door policy, which means questions get answered, guidance is available, and no one is left to navigate difficult litigation on their own.

The Atmosphere

The word that comes up most often when describing the firm is collegial. The environment is relaxed without being unserious, and the team genuinely gets along. There are no big-firm politics, no competing factions, and no culture of working through lunch to prove a point. Attorneys here handle real, complex cases in an atmosphere that respects their time and judgment.

There is also genuine humor in the day-to-day, the kind that makes a long week more manageable and reflects a team that actually enjoys working together. That combination of interesting work, a calm setting, and people worth spending time with is rarer than it should be in litigation, and it is one of the clearest elements that sets this firm apart.

The Work

A new attorney at Fahl & Donaldson would work primarily on transportation and trucking defense cases, general liability matters for insurance company clients, and construction litigation for commercial construction clients. These are not simple files. Trucking cases often involve serious injury or death claims, complex FMCSA regulatory issues, and sophisticated plaintiff counsel. General liability matters cover a range of industries and fact patterns. Construction cases require the ability to navigate contract disputes, delay claims, and multi-party litigation with significant dollar amounts at stake.

The client base includes insurance carriers, self-insured trucking and transportation companies, and commercial construction companies. Many of these relationships have existed for years, which means the work comes with context, trust, and the opportunity to develop real expertise in high-stakes commercial defense. No two cases are the same, and the variety keeps the work genuinely engaging.

No Billable Hour Requirements

One of the most notable differences from a traditional firm environment is the absence of billable hour requirements. Attorneys are not chasing a monthly number. The focus is on doing excellent work and moving cases forward effectively, not on logging hours for their own sake. That shift changes the texture of daily life in a firm in ways that are hard to overstate. Combined with a casual atmosphere and access to direct instruction from Glenn and Kelly, it creates a place where attorneys can focus on developing their craft rather than managing internal metrics.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented but flexible, curious about new areas of law, and comfortable working as part of a small team. Experience level is open, from a junior associate to someone with several years of defense litigation behind them, but the right personality matters more than years on a resume. This is a firm where you will be asked to think, contribute, and grow. Team players who take their work seriously and bring a good attitude to the office thrive here. Attorneys who need a large firm structure, a dedicated support staff for every task, or a rigid chain of command may find this environment an adjustment.

If any of the following describes you, this role is worth a closer look:

  • You want substantive defense litigation work across transportation, premises liability, and construction matters
  • You are looking for direct access to experienced trial attorneys and real mentorship
  • You want to work in a calm, low-ego environment without billable hour pressure
  • You are licensed in Texas and ready to contribute from day one

The best candidates bring curiosity, flexibility, and the willingness to learn, and they will find both the instruction and the humor to make the work rewarding.
